Baby Sweetie Potatoes!

The oatmeal and bananas have been going well, so this week, it was time to introduce R to sweet potatoes!  I cut up two large sweet potatoes into small cubes and covered them halfway with water to do a boil/steam.  Since I was going to be adding water to them anyway to make them thin enough for him to eat, I figured I might as well just do it this way and save a step!

After the potatoes were fork tender I dumped the whole pot into our blender and blended like there was no tomorrow!

Mmm... I love sweet potatoes!  What a fun color these must be for little eyes to see!!

I bought these silicone cube trays at BedBath&Beyond for $5 bucks for both.  I used a tablespoon sized cookie scooper to blop the potatoes into the cubes.  That way I know exactly how much he is consuming with each serving.  Into the freezer the little trays went!

Sweetie potatoes for days and days!  I have read that veggies are fine in the freezer for 3 months... but the FDA says frozen baby food for one month... so I will probably just aim for somewhere in between and use them up!  :)

Little man thoroughly enjoy the sweet potatoes!  Ahh... baby food is so fun!!

  1. Fresh sweet potatoes make the best baby food packed with vitamin A. I love the trays with three across. I bet they pop out easier than the old fashion 2x10 ones. When you do hard veg like green beans and carrots, shred them fresh in your food processor and then cook the shreds. You will not have to cook the shreds long and it will save vitamins.

How long did it take to get a picture of Roderick sticking out his tongue!! He is super cute :)

  2. I plan to do some serious carrot shredding today! He was going through a phase of sticking his tongue out all the time... it's less frequent now. Now he likes to blow on his thumb or pointer finger!! Its so adorable!
